Established in 2016, the Velvet Tea Cooperative has been dedicatedly cultivating and processing natural, organic tea in the village of Gezruli, Chiatura. The tea plantations, located at an altitude of 690 metres, enjoy the perfect blend of ecological and climatic conditions for producing high-quality tea. The team behind Velvet Tea brings an invaluable mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the craft of tea production.
Their methodology, a fusion of organic production standards with ancient traditional methods, involves meticulous attention to every step in the cultivation and manufacturing process. Tea leaves are handpicked and processed using modern equipment. From the selection of the delicate leaves to their drying and packaging, the rules of organic production are stringently adhered to. As a result, the tea they produce boasts a rich taste and an exquisite aroma that led to Velvet Tea's recognition on the EU Tea Route map.
Their commitment to quality results in a limited annual production of organic tea, thus ensuring the exclusivity and superior taste of their product. The unique attributes and flavors of the tea, nurtured in the Imereti highlands, are distinctly Georgian and completely organic.
In 2017, the company's products were awarded an organic farming certification from Caucascert, and in 2021, the company itself gained recognition as a bio-processing enterprise, also certified by Caucascert.
